Helicopter Crash Update
The smoke is still thick in an area of the Desoto National Forrest more than a day after a helicopter crash claimed the lives of two individuals and sent a third to the hospital in critical condition.
Pilot Brandon Ricks, age 40 of Oklahoma who worked for T and M Aviation and the other gentleman that lost his life was Steven W. Cobb of Wiggins. According to Hargrove, the helicopter crashed and caught fire. Brandon Ricks then died of smoke inhalation and Steven Cobb died of blunt force trauma.
It is unclear at this time how the third individual escaped from the aircraft. Officials are unable to talk about the third individual at this time because he did undergo surgery last night and is still listed as being in severe condition.
Officials with the National Transportation Safety Board day a preliminary report will be released in 5 to 10 days. But, the publication of the factual report could be up to 12 months away. This means that the official cause of the accident may not be known for 14 months, leaving many questions for friends and family.
