Hearing set for SRHS retirement case
Another development in the legal battle over the embattled Singing River Health System’s retirement plan.
Pascagoula attorney Harvey Barton and attorney Earl Denham have filed a motion requesting the removal of Stephen Simpson, the appointed special fiduciary over the system’s retirement trust.
Barton and Denham represent some of the retirees who are upset over not receiving the pension plans they were promised. They filed to motion on this matter, claiming there is a conflict of interest with Simpson’s role in this case.
They also question Simpson’s billing for services in his role. “Has charged the fund $392,410.92 for a part time job with frankly very little paperwork, very little paper trail to show for his efforts. Many times he just sits and bills eight hours for plan view and remodifications. What’s that? We haven’t seen anything. He’s making a lot of money and this is money that belongs to the retirees,” said Barton.
News 25 reached out to Stephen Simpson earlier today, but he declined to comment, saying only that he believes it is inappropriate to speak to the media while this motion is pending.
The hearing is scheduled for May 31st.
