Hearing the good news

It takes a special person to give someone a second chance when no one else will and that’s what one organization is doing at the Harrison County Adult Detention Center. News 25’s Hank Davis brings us the good news.
Most people have probably never heard of Good News Jail and Prison Ministry, but since 2001 the organization has been a part of the Harrison County Adult Detention Center. In 2014, Chaplain Tony Graham took on a leadership role to fulfill his calling and become a part of something much bigger. “We have chaplains all over the states and all over the world actually, Good News Jail and Prison Ministry is an international organization with about 400 chaplains out there.”
Tonight’s special event is all about the men and women who make it possible for the organization to give those that find themselves behind bars a second chance. Good News Graduate Devin Wade said, “They gave me a second chance. Actually it was like my third or fourth chance, but that program really saved my life because before I was a troubled teen. I was in and out of jail, in and out of jail whether it was the juvenile detention center or the Harrison County Adult Detention Center.”
Now Chaplain Graham and those who support his ministry are celebrating another year of good news, right here in Harrison County. “Everybody in the jail knows they’re in a tough spot. We don’t spend time talking about ‘hey, my life is in a tough spot.’ Everybody knows that, but the thing is when you get into a hard spot a lot of people are willing to say ‘I’m willing to change some things. What do I need to do and a lot of times it can just start with a simple principle,” said Chaplain Graham.
