HCSD high schoolers shadow health professionals at Singing River

Harrison County School District high schoolers have the opportunity to job shadow health professionals at Singing River in Gulfport.

Students are taking part in the health science program. Health science is a two-year program with the first-year being mainly book work and the second being more hands-on experience.

While the students are shadowing health professionals, they are able to explore different units like respiratory, radiology, and lab work.

The hands-on experience outside of the classroom while learning information from hospital professionals is the biggest benefit. Senior Lyranda Green said, “I like helping people and I like being able to give assistance to people whenever they need it, so I heard about the health science program and I just automatically fell in love with it. And I like studying and I love the whole body, anatomy. I just love helping people. It’s a really good program for me.”

Lyranda is currently in the EMT program and hopes to work in emergency services.
