Hattiesburg plans to paint the city with over 100 murals

The city of Hattiesburg is striving to be “the city of 100 murals” here in the Magnolia state.

VisitHATTIESBURG and the Hattiesburg Alliance for Public Art recently unveiled the city’s 51st mural — named ‘Jam Session’.

The mural by artist Reshonda Perryman pays tribute to musicians who call Mississippi home and created music in Hattiesburg such as Jimmy Buffett, Roosevelt Graves, and Vasti Jackson.

Across the city, the stories of Mississippi residents are showcased through art.

VisitHATTIESBURG executive director and CEO Marlo Dorsey tells us where this dream started…

“People don’t want to just have manufactured experiences,” Dorsey said. “Though we all love great theme parks, sometimes you also want to really learn a little bit more about that community and really see the history, dive into what makes that community authentic and unique in its own way. We all want to feel like we’re a part of something bigger than ourselves, and we all want a place to call home or a cool place to visit.  This has just been a unique journey and experience to be able to offer that in Hattiesburg.”

Anyone can follow the Hattiesburg Public Art Trail to see the murals.
