Harrison County Youth Court Moving to New Location
The Harrison County Youth Court System is moving its location on the Coast from Gulfport to downtown Biloxi.
For the first time in 18 years, children and the county’s youth court services will be on the same campus, making counseling and probationary services more easily available to the kids in the detention center.
Harrison County Youth Court will now be right across from the detention center in Biloxi, saving Harrison County about $400,000 in transportation costs a year. Judge Margaret Alfonso said, “I hope it’s a good effect and that the kids in detention, the children in detention are our most at risk children. We’re doing everything possible to keep them out of the adult system. We’re really going to focus on the most effective services available to really make a change in those kid’s lives.”
Youth court employees tell News 25 they’re happy to get rid of the trailers they were forced to use because the old building didn’t have enough space.
The Harrison County Youth Court plans to be all moved in by Monday.
