Harrison County to open storm shelters

Harrison County will open three shelters on Wednesday, September 11th, 2024 at 9 a.m. to provide a safe space for residents evacuating ahead of potential ahead of weather from Tropical Storm Francine.
Shelter locations are:
- County Farm Road Shelter 15038 County Farm Road, Gulfport
- Lyman Senior Center (pet accommodations) 14592 County Farm Road, Gulfport
- D’Iberville High School 15625 Lamey Bridge Road, Biloxi, MS
- Lobouy Road Shelter 9505 Lobouy Road, Pass Christian, MS
Residents evacuating to a shelter should bring essential items for each member of their family, including:
- Prescription and emergency medication
- Foods that meet special dietary requirements
- Blankets, pillows, extra clothing, hygiene supplies, and comfort items
- Chargers for any electronic devices
- Books, games, and other forms of entertainment
Pet accommodations are available at Lyman Senior Center. All pets must remain in a carrier/kennel. Owners are responsible for your pet by providing food, medications, and care for their pets during the sheltering period.
Coast Transit Authority will provide transportation to the shelters on Wednesday, September 11th, 2024 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Residents needing transportation should call CTA directly at 866-806-8843, ext 0 to schedule transport.
CTA will also provide transportation for accompanied pets to shelters with pet accommodations and must remain in a carrier/kennel. When scheduling transport, please confirm pet transport requirements with CTA.
Residents are encouraged to evacuate early and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
