Harrison County teenager struck by vehicle remains in ICU

Fourteen-year-old Julia Usprich, the teenager struck by a vehicle Friday night while attending Christmas in the Pass, remains in the ICU.

This morning, a Facebook page dedicated to Julia said an internist informed that the brain trauma on the left side of her brain has not changed, but it is not getting worse. This means Julia was able to be transported to USA Children’s and Women’s Hospital in the pediatric intensive care unit.

Julia’s family said she had surgery that included the removal of a portion of her skull to allow healing. She has bruising of her lungs, vertebrae damage, broken left femur and tibia.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help with Julia’s medical bills called ‘Julia’s Angels.’ If you would like to help you can visit that page here.

Julia was crossing Highway 90 when she was struck by a vehicle driven by 33-year-old David Hernandez, a Honduran national who entered the U.S. without documentation and has been living in Gulfport.

Police say he’s being held on a felony charge of leaving the scene of an accident with injuries.

If anyone has any other information regarding this incident you are urged to contact the Pass Christian Police Department.
