Harrison County Supervisor Connie Rockco Makes History

Supervisor Connie Rockco was the first woman elected to the Harrison County Board of Supervisors, the first woman elected to serve as board president and now she’s the first woman to serve as president of the Mississippi Association of Supervisors.
2016 President Eddie Dixon handed the gavel to Connie Rockco today during the Mississippi Association of Supervisors luncheon. Rockco was also the first woman to serve as vice president and the first president elected from Harrison County in more than 70 years.
Rockco tells News 25 she’s honored and excited to take the position. “We have unfunded mandates too that we address on the national level as well as the state level. We want everyone to understand that when they push that mandate down to local government, which is important, we have to set the millage and one way or the other, all of our constituents will suffer for us not working together so it’s important for everyone to know what supervisors do and the importance of everything they do on a day to day basis.”
Rockco was first elected to the board of supervisors in 1999. She was also the first woman to serve on the Harrison County Utility Authority, becoming secretary and vice president.
