Harrison County students donate bus-load of supplies to Humane Society
Health science students at the Harrison County Career and Technical Center are taking shelter animals under their care for the third year in a row.
These students delivered a bus-load of pet food, blankets, and toys, as well as clothes and shoes for the Humane Society of South Mississippi.
This is the third and largest donation the health science student organization has made.
While these students plan to care for humans one day, they say this experience each year is a lesson in how to be a leader and engage with the community.
“I think that what we’re doing can inspire others,” said Health Science Student Organization representative Riley Peleaz. “Some people are scared to go do things in their communities, they’re scared to get out, but I feel like this really impacts the community in a way that they can see, like, ‘Oh, these high schoolers are doing something, maybe we can.’ And they can go out and do other stuff…. help other communities.”
The Humane Society also has a pet resource center. People in need can stop by for assistance in caring for their pets.
