Harrison County State of the County Address

Harrison County held its annual State of the County Address this morning in Biloxi.

The event is hosted by the Gulf Coast Chamber of Commerce.  It is an opportunity for people living in Harrison County to get an update on ongoing projects and current events.

Last year, the event was forced to go virtual due to COVID, but this year they were back in-person with a sold-out crowd at IP Casino.

The key speaker was Beverly Martin, the president for the Harrison County Board of Supervisors. She talked about the ABCs of city government, using each letter to highlight different departments.

The letter T was used to highlight tourism, an industry that has boomed in Harrison County. “Everybody is moving forward, working together, and moving forward. We just came off a record year of tourism and gaming so it’s only getting better.”

Martin credited the county’s tourism boom to nearby tourist cities like New Orleans closing during the pandemic, which she believes brought more people to the Gulf Coast.
