Harrison County Soil and Water Conservation holds Arbor Tree distribution
HARRISON COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV)- The Harrison County Soil and Water Conservation District hosted its annual Arbor Day tree distribution at the Lyman Community Center.
For just $5 a family, residents were able to take home blueberry bushes, magnolias, and a variety of oaks, all aimed at growing more than just greenery.
The district has hosted this giveaway for years, but the last four have brought challenges with bad weather getting in the way.
Organizers say those setbacks made it hard to get plants into the ground and into the hands of local families.
In the years ahead, they hope more people will plant with a purpose, supporting wildlife habitats, growing fresh fruit, and improving the health of their soil.
As trees and bushes find new homes across the Coast, each one represents a step toward a strong, greener future.
