Harrison County Soil and Water Conservation District hosted Arbor Day Tree Giveaway

The Harrison County Soil and Water Conservation District hosted its annual Arbor Day Tree Distribution at the Lyman Community Center this morning.

Arbor Day is typically celebrated at the end of April, but due to our climate in Mississippi, some groups choose to observe it on the second Friday of February.

For just $5, people could drive through and get a bundle of saplings including live oaks, magnolias, blueberry bushes, swamp chestnut oak, and tag alder trees. Joe Buckley with Harrison County Soil and Water Conservation District said, “If you want to do something good for the environment, plant a tree. They give us oxygen, shade, food for the wildlife, and they’re just good all the way around for the environment.”

The annual tree distribution provides trees to more than 300 households.
