Harrison County Sheriff’s Office welcomes K9 Rae

The Harrison County Sheriff’s Department has another K9 ready to protect students along the Coast.

Meet K9 Rae, a year-and-a-half old black lab that is assigned to the school resource division, and she is so excited to be in school.

The K9 unit plays a crucial role in Harrison County schools and can even search an area four times faster than any human.

Hannah Hendry with the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office explains what makes K9 Rae an invaluable asset to the department and how she earned her name. “So, K9 Rae is assigned to our school resource division. She goes to schools in the district. She’s trained to detect illegal narcotics and gun powder. We named her to honor one of our former K9 Sgt. Ray Miller. He was a huge part in building the K9 division not only at the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office, but kind of along the Coast.”

Keep an eye out for K9 Rae and all of the amazing school resource officers keeping kids safe.
