Harrison County Sheriff’s Office warns against scams

The Harrison County Sheriff’s Office is sharing that scammers are contacting people ahead of the holidays.

A fake deputy is calling residents, asking for money to be sent so the victim can clear a warrant, avoid an arrest or release their friend from jail.

Aside from money, scammers are asking for Amazon gift cards, bitcoin transfers, or to meet somewhere.

While the sheriff’s office says they will never ask for money, they did share what they will ask for.

They ask all to avoid drinking and driving this holiday season, sign up for Pancakes with Santa, and to grab a Christmas star from their lobby to help a child in need.

If you have any doubts about a scammer, you are advised to contact the department before sending money.
