Harrison County Sheriff’s Office hosted seminar to bring awareness to scams
The Harrison County Sheriff’s Office hosted a neighborhood meeting at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Gulfport, bringing awareness to common scams happening in South Mississippi.
Scams come in all shapes and sizes and seniors are a vulnerable population targeted for money and information scams.
The Harrison County Sheriff’s Office took time to educate the public and teach seniors the warning signs and things to know to stay protected. The seminar also provided free tools sponsored by Triad, including whistles, reflective street address signs, grab bars, and many others. Lt. Robert Lincoln said, “There are so many scams going on now-a-days that the older citizens are really being targeted. It just kills us to know that these people are vulnerable to these scams. So, what we’re doing here is trying to show them what scams are happening and how to avoid them and how to detect them more than anything else.”
After the meeting, seniors learned at least 11 common scams to be aware of.
