Harrison County Sheriff warns residents about phone scam
Harrison County Sheriff Matt Haley is warning residents to be wary of some using his office’s information to try to scam people in the area.
According to multiple reports, an unknown person is contacting residents claiming to be from Harrison County Sheriff’s Office. They are requesting large sums of money to avoid arrest for various fines or infractions.
Haley said residents should know that his office will never contact them asking for payments of any fines or fees over the phone.
He said anyone receiving these calls should ignore the demands for payment — and do not make any payments.
If a resident wants to verify if the call was a scam, they are free to come to the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office in person at 10451 Larkin Smith Road in Gulfport or call 228-897-1364.
