Harrison County Settles for $2.5 Million

Adding to the list of local government claims finalized with BP, Harrison County has settled with the oil giant for 2.5 million dollars.
The county’s 2.5 million plus the amount announced by each city pushes the total in settlements for Harrison County to 13.5 million dollars. Harrison County Board President Connie Rockco tells News 25 that the county is happy the tax payer will see a benefit and is glad to put this chapter behind them.
“This will go to compensate the taxpayers who lost money, not only during Katrina recovery, but now the BP spill. So, this will help to recover some of those tax dollars for the citizens of Harrison County,” said Rockco.
The county’s settlement is in addition to the 1.5 billion that Mississippi will receive from BP.
