Harrison County School District expands summer meal program
Out of the 15,000 students in Harrison County schools, 70% receive subsidized meals, which is why Harrison County School District is expanding its summer meals program this year.
This summer, the district expects to serve an estimated 300,000 USDA-approved meals.
They’re upgrading from nine feeding sites to 14, including a mobile feeding site that will offer breakfast and lunch in June and July.
Brad Barlow, the child nutrition director at Harrison County Schools, tells us how you can benefit from this program.
“All parents and children need to do is show up during the times we have listed on our website,” he says. “There is no enrollment. There is no application. Students don’t even need to be students within the Harrison County School District. They can be homeschooled, attend a whole other school district, and receive free meals all summer long.”
