Harrison County Joins Litigation Against Mississippi Power

Today, Mississippi Power tried its best to persuade the Harrison County Board of Supervisors to cut ties with other cities in their litigation against them.
Last week, the board joined up with D’iberville, Biloxi, the Gulf Coast Business Council and Thomas Blanton in their objection to stop the Public Service Commission from allowing Mississippi Power an emergency rate increase. The rate increase would help offset part of the millions the company was asked to refund to customers.
Harrison County District 3 Supervisor Marlin Ladner said, “I want to protect the taxpayers of Harrison County. As I said, they’re going to catch it from both ways; both from an increase in the power bill, as well as an increase in their taxes if we can’t control the power bill. And that’s what my concern is, that they’re going to pay for it both ways if something isn’t done.”
The commission is set to rule on the emergency rate proposal this week.
