Harrison County hosts 5th annual Christmas Cardboard Recycling event

Harrison County Utility Authority hosted their fifth annual Christmas Cardboard Recycling Event on Saturday.

The event took place at five different locations across Harrison County to keep clutter and trash off the streets.

Once the cardboard makes its way to the recycling facility, it undergoes a process that eventually allows it to be recycled into new cardboard and other paper products.

Waste Management also helped with unloading vehicles and was on hand to bring additional dumpster bins when they got too full.

Last year, 2 tons of cardboard was recycled from the five locations combined. Solid Waste Technician Rusty Hulett said, “We’re trying to get people educated on the recycling and it’s getting out of their homes. We’re just trying to properly dispose of it. We’d like everyone to recycle. This is just another part of what we’re trying to do for Harrison County.”

Saturday’s collection brought in 1.59 tons of cardboard for recycling.
