Harrison County flooding and rescues

Flooding continues to be a problem this morning as rivers continue to rise from all the heavy rainfall this weekend, prompting Governor Phil Bryant to declare a state of emergency in response to severe storms and flooding throughout our state, dating back to last Wednesday.

South Mississippi took the brunt of severe weather this weekend with flooding putting some people in our area in life threatening situations.

A dramatic scene unfolded as a man and his four-year-old child were rescued from the roof of their truck off of Saucier-Lizana Road in one of those rescues. No one was injured and there was no loss of life.

If you ever find yourself driving and water is covering the road, remember ‘turn around, don’t drown.’ If a road is flooded or if barricades are up, don’t risk your lives and others by taking a chance you’ll cross through safely.
