Harrison County Fire Rescue receives grant

The Harrison County Fire Rescue will receive over $600,000 in federal grant funding for new equipment.

The money was awarded to Harrison County from FEMA through the U.S. Fire Administration and will be used to replace old self-contained breathing apparatuses, also known as air packs.

Harrison County Fire Rescue is one out of six counties on the Coast to be granted this funding. These grants are awarded through the FEMA’s assistance to firefighters grants program to assist in departmental safety. Harrison County Fire Rescue Chief Pat Sullivan said, “Everybody’s excited about it. It makes our job safer. It makes our job easier, if you will, but primarily it makes our job safer for us to go rescue people in hazardous situations.”

With the grant, 118 air packs will be replaced with new ones.
