Harrison County elected officials take oath to serve county

Elected officials in Harrison County officially stepped into their new positions today after taking their oaths of office.

They each raised their right hand, left on a bible, and swore to serve Harrison County.

For some, they’ve done this before and for others, it was a first.

Especially for Chancery Clerk Angela Thrash – who is the county’s first female to serve this role. She tells us what taking this oath meant to her and her family.

“You can do anything that you want to do if you put your mind to it,” Thrash said, “It just shows my girls that even being young, a mother at such a young age, that you can keep striving for what you want to be.”

Thrash Tells WXXV she’s ready for this opportunity, but she’s still pinching herself to make sure it’s real.

Many of them are ready to hit the ground running, like Sheriff Matt Haley. Before he even took his oath, Haley already knew what he wanted to tackle first.

“I do feel ready, you know,” Sheriff Matt Haley said. “My grandfather is somebody that I confide in and I was talking to him about it, and he said ‘Matt, you have been training for this your whole life. So, you are 100 percent ready’. And he’s right. You know, I’ve held a lot of positions throughout the office and it just gives me a better grasp on things and just where things need to go in the future.”

It was a busy first day for many of them as they stepped into their new roles.
