Harrison County Board of Supervisors Discuss Budget
The Harrison County Board of Supervisors provides funding for almost 40 elected officials and their employees.
Initial plans on how to budget money for those offices and the county began today. The board is currently looking at a 62 million dollar budget. Board officials believe that could drop to around 60 million by the time they accept the budget in two weeks.
One thing the board did not include in that budget is the 2.4 million dollar settlement the county received from BP. District 5 Supervisor Connie Rockco said, “We haven’t received it and we don’t want to count our chickens before they hatch because we don’t know when the money’s coming in. It could come in two years from now or it could come in tomorrow or the end of the year, so we don’t want to include that.”
Final acceptance of the board’s budget will also determine if there will be any additional taxes paid by Harrison County residents.
