Harrison County Blue Ribbon Committee on Child Protection proposes ‘Baby DJ’s Law’
This afternoon in Harrison County, the Blue Ribbon Committee on Child Protection rolled out a new legislative program that, if passed, would address improving the safety measures for abused children.
During this meeting, Judge Margaret Alfonso presented her proposed legislation, Baby DJ’s Law, a vital initiative aimed at enhancing the protection of children in cases of severe abuse, neglect, or exploitation. Baby DJ’s Law, similar to the Amber Alert system, would issue alerts to media outlets when Youth Court or Child Protection Services receives credible reports of child abuse and cannot locate the child within 24 hours.
The alert would provide identifying details about the child and family, along with any information regarding their last known location, to engage the public’s help in locating the child swiftly.
The Blue Ribbon Committee on Child Protection meets every first and third Friday of the month at 1 p.m. at the First Judicial District Courthouse in Gulfport.
