Harrison Central’s Dajon Whitworth’s passing clinic fueling Red Rebels
Fresh off a tournament championship in Gulfport’s Hardwood Holiday Classic, Harrison Central is playing its best basketball of the year. A big part of the success for the Red Rebels starts with Dajon Whitworth who’s been putting on a passing clinic in his senior season.
Dayquan Perkins is on the receiving end of a lot of that ball movement and together they’ve got the ball moving back to Jackson.
Here’s a piece of friendly advice when Dajon Whitworth is running the point: don’t blink. “He does it in practice, so the guys are used to it.”
Harrison Central Forward Dayquan Perkins said, “Keep your head on a swivel cause you never know when he’s going to pass it cause he’s always looking to get everybody involved, so I mean you’ve got to have your hands up and ready to score.”
Harrison Central’s senior floor general has always been good with the rock, but this year Whitworth is showing off the worth of his wit when it comes to his exotic passing exhibitions. “It’s something I’ve been doing, but this year I’m trying to get the team more involved and pass more. Be a pass-first guard.”
The results of being a Youtube first student of the game. “Kyrie, Curry, little bit Isaiah Thomas. I watch a lot of guards, A.I.”
The man does his homework, but it’s more like a group project. “It’s fun, though, passing the ball, getting my teammates involved.”
“Don’t be looking over here, you know I’m always ready to finish.”
He’s not lying, Dayquan Perkins has been destroying the shelf life of rims all season long as he would say, keeping it in the slam fam. Harrison Central Head Boys Basketball Coach Boo Hardy said, “One scratch the other back, so and again they know each other like the back of their hands.”
“Our team, we just all like playing together. I mean anybody can score, it’s just up to us.”
“Yeah, the way the system is it’s made for everybody to score. Everybody gets involved, everybody gets a piece of the cake.”
The icing on that cake would be a return trip to Jackson and the program’s first state title since the year 2000. “We’re just trying to get to Jackson, got to stay grinding, we’ve got to go back to Jackson. That’s the main goal out of all of this is to go back and finish the deal.”
A huge district game coming up for the Red Rebels who host Gulfport tomorrow night at 7 o’clock.
