Harrison Central High Band Celebrates Big Win
Instead of just playing the victory chorus, the Harrison Central High School band is celebrating their own victory today as winners of a regional contest.
The high school band was awarded $2,000 for winning the Powerade Literary Contest. The contest was a showdown between Harrison County, Hancock County, and Stone County student activity groups. A band booster submitted the high school’s band into the competition and the win came as a big surprise.
Band Instructor Ken White says the Powerade contest is usually an athletic competition. “They were excited because we are always at the pep rally. We are always the ones playing. To actually receive the award at a pep rally was a different take on it so they really appreciate that. They really got excited.”
The band is using the $2,000 to buy new instruments. Coca-Cola representatives presented the check in front of an audience full of students at the school’s pep rally this morning.
