Harrison Central coach’s weight loss story in “Men’s Health”

All eyes are on a Harrison Central High School coach and his incredible journey to good health. Assistant football coach Robert Browne was recently featured in “Men’s Health” magazine showcasing his inspiring body transformation, one the magazine calls ‘jaw-dropping.’
He used to be 355 pounds. Now the only time Coach Robert Browne will weigh that much is if you count the weights he’s lifting. “I expect to live a longer and healthier life than I did when I was 355 pounds. Statistics just say so,” said Browne.
Browne’s amazing body transformation debuted in “Men’s Health” magazine Monday. An assistant football coach and health teacher at Harrison Central High School, Browne tells News 25 he gained an unhealthy amount of weight after he injured his knee playing college football. Two surgeries later, Browne was told not to return to the game. “After the initial shock of not being able to do what I loved anymore, I just stopped doing anything active at all,” said Browne.
As Browne’s weight soared at more than 350 pounds, he fell into depression. “I started just being lazy and not doing anything. I actually gained around 75 pounds.”
A visit to the doctor’s office in 2013 was his wake up call. “She told me that I was border line stroke level in my blood pressure. That was the day I knew I had to make a change,” said Browne.
And he did. Coach Browne took up power lifting. He started eating healthy and working out alongside his students. The results were drastic. He now weighs in at about 235 pounds.
Browne says what really lifts him up and motivates him is teaching others what he knows. “If they’re going through it and they can challenge themselves mentally and physically than I can go through it with them,” said Browne.
His advice for those willing to take on the challenge to change? “Do something that you can stick with. Don’t try to follow anybody else’s journey. Everyone’s journey is going to be unique,” said Browne.
