Harrison Central alum Kayla Moran transfers to the University of Charleston

GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV) — Harrison Central softball alum Kayla Moran has a new home at the Division II level with the University of Charleston in West Virginia.

In 2020, the former Red Rebelette signed with the University of Mobile, before going on to put up monster numbers as a senior, to the tune of a .397 batting average with 27 runs, 20 RBI, seven doubles, two triples and her first career home run at D’Iberville. She also had a sparkling 0.78 ERA in the circle.

But things didn’t go according to plan during her time in the Azalea City, having to work her way back from a torn labrum in her left shoulder. She responded with a .500 average during the fall of 2022, but still didn’t see much playing time once the spring rolled around, and now she’s ready to prove herself all over again with the Golden Eagles.

“Well, no one up there knows how I play, so it’s kind of like I can be who I actually am and not have to be like, oh, I have to be the best player out there,” said Moran. “I’m going to show them that I’m a hard worker and that I earned the spot that I’m going to be in.”

“Coach Parker was very disciplined, and in college your coaches are very disciplined. I didn’t think it was going to be that serious. I don’t know why. But it is, so having that discipline that Coach Parker taught me has really gotten me to where I am today.”

“I’ve got to say wings up.”

Moran says the scariest part about moving is being 13 hours away from her dog, Hagrid, an English Mastiff.
