Harbors along the Coast begin evacuations for Ida
Boat harbors across the Coast are calling emergency evacuation mandates for their occupants.
One of the docks making this call is the Bay St. Louis Municipal Harbor. They have called a mandatory evacuation of all boats still docked at their location by Saturday at 7 p.m.
Evacuating residents have decided to move their boats to safer areas including Lake Pontchatrain in New Orleans, up the bay in the Jordan River, and the Wolf River.
Some are even bringing their boats all the way out to Pensacola and Destin.
These mandatory evacuations are being placed due to the high risk of damage to both the boats and the docks. Bay St. Louis Municipal Harbor Master Sean Hales said, “Obviously, we’ve got a storm approaching. So, we’re doing our preparations here to be ready for that which basically consists of helping boaters. We’re doing a lot of fueling right now at the fuel docks so they can be on their way. We’ll start pulling out our power pedestals and some other things we have to do.”
MDOT announced this afternoon that marine traffic must clear the I-110 bridge on the Biloxi Back Bay by 1 p.m. Saturday.
