Hangar Fire at Diamondhead Airport
A hangar caught fire at the Diamondhead Airport earlier this afternoon.
Diamondhead fire officials responded to a call about the fire on Airport Road around 3:30 p.m. Bay St. Louis, Hancock County, Harrison County and more assisted the Diamondhead Fire Department with extinguishing the flames.
The hangar is located in a residential area and stands just feet away from a Diamondhead home. That house received zero damage and luckily, no one was injured. Diamondhead Fire Department Assistant Chief Tony Sciacca said, “In this part of the community, it’s common to have aircraft hangars on the back of your house. There’s actually a taxi way to the airport.”
Officials tell News 25 the two airplanes that were located inside of the hangar were completely destroyed. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
