Hands on Mississippi Holds Helping Hands Food Program
September is Hunger Action Month. Wednesday, Hands on Mississippi, a non-profit organization, held their second Helping Hands Food Program.
Wednesday afternoon, they gave away 5,000 lbs. of fresh food to the students of Woolmarket Elementary School in Biloxi. Bags of donated food from local supermarkets were being given out to parents. Organizers of the Helping Hands Food Program want to help these students maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Holly Gibbs, Executive Director of Hands on Mississippi, says, “Absolutely, and when they eat healthy and when they are healthy and have these healthy habits, it extends into their education. They have that power to learn and then they feel better within themselves, so they produce better in school.”
Hands on Mississippi will host several more food drops within the next couple of months.
