Hands on Mississippi Donates Food to Needy in the Community

Hands on Mississippi gave away 400 boxes of fresh food from 2 to 4 p.m. in Gulfport Wednesday afternoon.

The rain and cold weather did not stop men, women, and families from lining up to grab fresh food gathered from local grocery stores. All that was required to receive a box of food was an ID and proof of residency in Harrison County. Executive Director of Hands on Mississippi, Holly Gibbs, hopes this food drive will lend a helping hand to those living paycheck to paycheck.

Gwendolyn Victorian, a Gulfport resident, says, “I can use some food, you know, because I’m on a fixed income and everything and every bit helps and this is my first time ever seeing this. This is so nice. This is really nice and my mom is going to love it.”

Hands on Mississippi will be delivering around 5,000 pounds of food to Biloxi residents on Saturday at Mercy Cross Gym.
