Hancock hosting Gautier in teal out for Emily Goss
Sometimes it just means more and this week it means a lot more for the Hancock football program still less than two months removed from the tragic loss of Emily Goss.
On Friday, the Hawks are hosting Gautier in the News 25 Game of the Week that’s turning out to be more about life than it is football.
Hancock will be honoring Emily in the form of a teal out, her favorite color, as a way to celebrate her life, cut way too short.
On the field, Hancock has ripped off two straight wins to start off the 2019 season while Gautier appears to be one of the most dangerous 1-1 teams on the Gulf Coast.
At the end of the day, the Hawks are doing it for Em, whose passing is still heavy on the hearts of many.
Coaches and players tell News 25 one of her favorite things to say was ‘I got you’ and now they got her. Head Football Coach Neil Lollar said, “I think it’s kind of our way of celebrating her, not just mourning. I think Emily would want it that way. She was somebody that always wanted to shine bright. That was kind of one of her big things, and she always said I got you. And this is a way that we can do this.”
Wide receiver Blaine Herrmann said, “Just like she always told us, she said I got you and we got her after this season. Everything, this whole season is for her. Cause she was always there for us and was in the locker room, and she was in the locker room putting up jerseys on Friday nights. She helped out with everything. She was a person that could have walked in the room and made you — just, it was a contagious smile.”
Kicker Austin Hyde said, “Just to know that we’re thinking about her constantly. That’s the main thing, she will never be forgotten. L.L.E. Long Live Emily.”
The Hawks and Gators will kick things off at 7 p.m. Friday from Hancock High School.
