Hancock High student’s celebrate Brayden Peterson’s return home

Over a month after an accident left him unresponsive for several minutes, Hancock High School 9th grader Brayden Peterson was finally able to return home to his friends and family.

Students from Hancock Middle School and high school waited to see their classmate Brayden Peterson for the first time in over 45 days.

During the Diamondhead Christmas Parade, Brayden experienced a medical emergency that left him unresponsive for about seven minutes. Brayden’s brother, Brock, said “I went to see him at the hospital. It just took a major turn for how he is now from where he was in the beginning.”

Brayden’s Aunt, Melinda Bourgeois, said “It was scary because we didn’t know what had happened or what the cause was, but he’s a miracle day by day.”

After about 45 days of recovery, Brayden was released from the hospital last week.

Once the news of his release reached the school, Brayden’s friend Kylie Gerald decided she wanted to throw a parade on both the middle school and high school’s campuses to celebrate his journey. “All of my friends like have been worried about Brayden and we wanted to just like see him and do something to support him to show him that we care.”

So, students gathered outside the school as the marching band and cheerleaders led the way for Brayden, who rode in the back of a Jeep tossing cups full of candy into the crowd.

Family and friends of Brayden say the event could not have gone any better. Friend Kaison Koenenn said, “Just everybody showing support, showing how much he means to them and him doing good makes everybody feel better.”

Friend Makelsie Koenenn said, “Yeah, I was just trying not to cry earlier. I just love how everyone is so supportive and out here and showing a good vibe and it’s just great to see how he is now.”

While Brayden and his family still have a long journey ahead of him, his friends and family believe he will be back to 100 percent one day. “Oh, he’s going to make a full recovery. He’s going to be back to how he was in my opinion.”

“He’s going to get better hopefully soon.”

To support Brayden and his family, you can purchase raffle tickets for a custom golf cart for $20 or six for $100.

Visit Gulf Coast Golf Carts at 17000 Kapalama Road in Pass Christian to purchase tickets or contact Kodie Koenenn at 228-261-0070 for other purchasing options.
