Hancock High School holds demonstration to educate students on the consequences of impaired driving

Early Monday morning, Hancock High School conducted a powerful demonstration to educate students about the severe consequences of distracted and impaired driving ahead of the prom season.

The event featured a simulated vehicle accident in the school’s back parking lot, involving local first responders who treated the scenario as a real emergency.

This initiative was organized by Theater Director Lena Garcia and Public Safety Instructor Shawn Feazelle who gave their thoughts on the event. Garcia said, “Any live production of anything is great experience for drama kids. The kids got to experience semi-professional make-up today with fake blood and we had some who performed in front of their entire student body which is extremely hard to do. So, they got to experience that live action and when you are live if you make a mistake you have to figure it out.”

Feazelle said, “My students really wanted to do something to show the student body how important it is for their safety during prom. I had the opportunity to talk to Ms. Garcia about teaming up and working with the drama class and coming up with a script and doing it together. The local fire department and sheriff’s department, all of the emergency responder teams were great and supportive of what we did.”
