Hancock County School District transportation prepared for road construction

Hancock County School District heads back to school this week, but local construction is putting them to the test.

Not even a closure of the Diamondhead I-10 exit and the construction of a new PRCC aviation center right by the high school is going to keep these children out of school.

The school district has created a transportation plan that will have minimal changes to student’s schedules.

All bus routes and pick-up times will stay the same, with only a handful of buses driving through the Diamondhead construction.

Construction of the aviation center will take place during class time and will have no impact on school traffic in the mornings or afternoons.

The project in Diamondhead is estimated to take three years to complete, but the district is willing to make changes as necessary.

“We’re just asking the community for patience and understanding as we navigate through this,” said Chayna Adams, public relations for Hancock County School District. “We’re going to reassess, especially after the first day of school. So, make sure that you’re at the bus stop a little bit early and anticipate traffic – which is normal for the beginning of school. Like I said, have patience with us so we can navigate this. Our main goal is to get our students home safely and to school safely.”
