Hancock County locals lifting spirits with Healthcare Heroes Care Packages
A group of ladies in Hancock County started taking donations and funding care packages out of pocket for healthcare workers during the summer of 2021 and they are continuing their selfless act.
To help out, the Hancock County Community Development Foundation has committed to match every dollar donated at 100 percent up to $1,000.
Around four teams across the Coast have been assembled to collect, organize, pack and deliver boxes weekly or whenever they are needed.
The care packages include a variety of things such as water, healthy snacks, bottled tea or coffee, gift cards, pens, post-its, hand sanitizer, and candy. Volunteer Elise Deano said, “You know, the main thing is they are overwhelmed. We love them. We appreciate them. We appreciate what they are doing and this is just a tiny thing that we can do to kind of let them know the community cares about them.”
Hancock County Community Development President Wendy McDonald said, “It’s rewarding to us. We feel like we are doing something to help keep the pandemic down and let the Coast recover. We need to all kick-in.”
Those who would like to donate items can drop them off at the Hancock Chamber of Commerce or Bay Town Inn in Bay St. Louis.
