Hancock County hosting annual Night out against Crime event Saturday

The Hancock County Sheriff’s Department and Waveland and Bay St. Louis police departments are partnering together for a Night out against Crime event.

The family-oriented event is happening tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. Claire Church in Waveland.

As part of the National Night out against Crime Day, it gives the community a chance to meet and spend the day with first responders over food and drinks.

There will be plenty of interactions for the kids as well as they get a chance to tour police vehicles and a helicopter on scene.

The police departments have invited some of their firefighter friends along with other companies to give demonstrations and share information to stay safe. Hancock County Sheriff’s Department Community Liaison Ernest Taylor said, “We can continue to build that relationship that we already have with the community to further give them an opportunity to speak to us on a one-on-one basis where there’s nothing in between, it’s just us and them. It gives the children to come in and even SWAT talk with the officers, to speak with the officers.”

Last year this event was not able to happen due to COVID so the departments are excited to see everyone who comes out.
