Hancock County EMA offers tips to prepare for hurricane season

Today marks the first day of hurricane season and that means there is no time like the present to prepare for what could come our way.

Storm surge, gusting winds, and heavy rainfall can be a devastating mix for Coast residents.

News 25 stopped by the Hancock County Emergency Management Agency this morning to speak with EMA Director Brian Adam.

One very important message he had for our viewers is to know your area well and learn how you can be impacted by storm surge. “A lot of people in our low-lying areas do know it. There are some new ones that have no clue when and where they’re going to flood. Just call into the EOC and we will tell you the areas. There is also a map on the website.”

Other things to add to your hurricane preparedness list include essential items like food, water, toiletries, and essential medications.

Prepare your home by having coverings ready for your windows. Always have your evacuation plan ready.
