Hancock County EMA issues mandatory evacuation for low lying areas

The Hancock County Emergency Management Agency in coordination with the Hancock County Board of Supervisors and cities of Bay St. Louis, Diamondhead, and Waveland have issued a mandatory evacuation effective Saturday, August 28th at 10 a.m.

This evacuation is for all low-lying areas, residents living on rivers, river inlets, bayou creeks, and in travel trailers, modular homes, or mobile home, homes under construction or partially constructed homes.

The low lying areas include but are not limited to:

  • Shoreline Park (east and west side of Highway 603)
  • North Beach- Cedar Point, South Beach BLVD
  • Bay St. Louis and Waveland, South Side of Diamondhead
  • Clermont Harbor
  • Lakeshore
  • Ansley/ Heron Bay
  • Pearlington
  • Harbor Drive
  • Chapman Road
  • Jourdan River Drive

The Hancock County EMA and the American Red Cross and the MS Department of Human Services will be opening the Kiln Shelter on Saturday, August 28th at 10 a.m.  The shelter is located at 18320 Highway 43.

Please make sure to bring all items to be self-contained such as bedding, medications, personal hygiene items, drinks, and snacks.

Pets will not be allowed in the general population shelters.
