Hall, Newsome sign Division I
Today marks the beginning of the early signing period for high school football players going off to the next level.
This morning, two Gulfport standouts signed national letters of intent with their future division one schools.
Four-star linebacker Derick Hall put pen to paper with Auburn University, picking the Tigers over other finalists Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Florida, and Florida State.
His running mate, TQ Newsome, had an easier decision to make and is officially on board with Southern Miss as a three-star running back.
From War Eagle to Golden Eagle, both Admirals have a new home they can take pride in. “It was a lot running through my mind. It was it’s finally over. I think I made the right decision. Did I make the right decision? But I know you always go with your heart and I just prayed about it and God led me to Auburn. I mean I didn’t see really a point in getting all those hats and putting them on the table and all that. I just grabbed one hat, what I was going with and just rolled with it,” said Hall.
Newsome said, “Well, from day one they always made me feel like I was a part of a family. They made it feel like it was official so it’s really just confirming all of the technicalities out of the way, so I’ve been feeling like I was part of the family. I’ve been losing this school, the school has been showing me love. So it’s just a blessing for it to come out true, so now I’m officially a Golden Eagle. (Southern Miss) To The Top!”
Keeilan Thomas also signed with Pearl River Community College. Together, the class of 2019 led the Admirals to 16 consecutive district wins to close out their high school careers.
