H.S.S.M. to Host “H&R Bark: Tails Incentive Program” Half-Off Adoption Fees

This tax season, the Humane Society of South Mississippi (H.S.S.M.) wants to put Gulf Coast community members’ tax returns to good use. The Gulfport shelter is hosting a half-off adoption promotion on February 6th and 7th entitled “H&R Bark: Tails Incentive Program.” H.S.S.M. is currently playing home to 219 dogs and cats that are looking for homes.

“We currently have nearly 50 small dogs and puppies in need of loving homes,” said H.S.S.M. Marketing Specialist Krystyna Schmitt, “That’s actually quite a high number for this time of year, when shelter intake is low. So, we want to encourage our community to utilize some of their tax return funds to save a life!”

H.S.S.M.’s “H&R Bark: Tails Incentive Program” will run Friday, February 6 through Saturday, February 7th and offer half-off the adoption fees of any adoptable pet in the shelter. An additional $5 tag fee will apply to all adoptions. A full listing of adoptable pets, including photos, can be found at www.hssm.org/adoptable-pets.

All adoptions include the usual amenities: up-to-date vaccinations, spay/neuter, microchip, engraved ID tag, free bag of Hill’s Science Diet food, free vet visit within seven days of adoption, 30 days of free pet health insurance, and 10% off in H.S.S.M.’s Bow Wow Meow Boutique.

Promotions like the “H&R Bark: Tails Incentive Program” are integral to H.S.S.M. being able to save more lives. Because of concerted efforts, H.S.S.M. has not had to euthanize any healthy, adoptable pets simply due to lack of space since 2012. H.S.S.M. is committed to ending the euthanasia of adoptable pets in our community, but requires community assistance to overcome pet overpopulation so that each healthy and adoptable pet can live out a healthy, happy life.

The Humane Society of South Mississippi depends on the support of our local community members to provide the highest quality services and compassion to the animals entrusted to our care.
