Gunn not budging on Medicaid extension for new moms

House Speaker Philip Gunn is not budging on Medicaid extension for new moms.

Gunn says he opposes efforts to revive a proposal that would let mothers keep Medicaid coverage for a year after giving birth.

Mississippi allows two months of Medicaid coverage for women after they give birth, however, advocates for low-income women say expanding the government insurance coverage up to a year could improve health outcomes for Mississippi which already has a high rate of maternal mortality.
