Gulfport’s Cooper Payne signs tennis scholarship with Millsaps College!

It was an exciting day at Gulfport High School as one of their own is headed to the next level!

After the Admirals defeated D’Iberville on their home courts, tennis player Cooper Payne officially put pen to paper to continue his athletic and academic career at Millsaps College! Payne plays doubles for the blue and orange and his favorite memory is winning the McGill Toolen Invitational in back-to-back years!

The senior told WXXV that he’ll miss playing with this Gulfport team but is super excited to head up to Jackson!

“It means so much,” Payne said. “I feel like I’ve come really far for only playing the past five years in itself so I feel like I’ve truly put all the work in and it’s all coming to show now. I wanted to play college tennis because I love the atmosphere of playing with the team, showing support for one another and just the brothership.”

Congratulations Cooper, and we look forward to seeing all you accomplish as a Major!
