Gulfport woman tries to flee police, injures Harrison County K-9
A Gulfport woman faces charges of injuring a police dog and failing to stop for police.
Harrison County Sheriff Troy Peterson said Brandy Bazor, 38, was charged with felonies of failing to stop a vehicle and injuring, drugging or taunting a public service animal on Thursday.
She also faces misdemeanor charges of DUI, resisting arrest, failure to comply and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was taken to Harrison County jail, where she is being held on a $150,000 bond set by Justice Judge Diane Ladner.
Peterson said that when officers tried to stop Bazor for a traffic violation, she failed to stop and fled in her 2003 Ford Taurus with a passenger, Alexis Preston. He has been charged on misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest and failure to comply.
When Bazor stopped the vehicle, Preston fled on foot and was apprehended by a K9 officer. Bazor then tried to flee on foot while actively ingesting drugs, Peterson said.
K-9 Officer Zico was deployed and apprehended Bazor, but was injured in the leg. He was treated and released to light duty until he’s recovered.
