Gulfport woman arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident

A woman is behind bars after she hit a pedestrian and fled the scene on foot in Gulfport.
Thirty-eight year-old Elizabeth Kate Martin was arrested on the charge of leaving the scene of an accident with injury. The 42-year-old male victim she is accused of hitting is in serious condition at an area hospital. It happened around 11:15 Monday morning.
Investigators were out marking evidence and inspecting the scene at the corner of 29th Street and 58th Avenue near Canal Road. The suspect was driving a 2009 GMC Savannah van when the pedestrian was hit.
She was arrested a short time after fleeing the scene.
