Gulfport Ward 6 Candidate residency dispute

GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV)-Gulfport Ward 6 City Council incumbent R. Lee Flowers challenged the candidacy of his opponent Carrissa Corbett.

The Gulfport Municipal Election Commission met Tuesday before a full house to determine whether Corbett is a qualified candidate based on residency.

Flowers maintains that Corbett has been living in Long Beach with one of his biggest arguments being that Corbett put a post office box on her qualifying statement rather than a home address for the council race.

After the hearing, the commission voted unanimously for a second time that Corbett is a qualified candidate for the Ward 6 City Council seat.

Election Commission Member Brenda Matthews later said “All we want is for her to be placed on the ballot and let the people decide.”
