Gulfport to vote on garbage collection fee hike proposal

The Gulfport City Council will consider an $18 rate hike for garbage collection and disposal.

City officials say the proposals that came in as Waste Pro’s contract came up for renewal were all high, Waste Pro submitting the lowest bid.

The contract will include weekly recycling pickup and twice-weekly garbage pickup.

Weekly debris pickup will stay with H2O Services.

Officials say inflation, wages, and utility increases all contributed to the rate increase.

If Gulfport approves the contract unanimously, it will take effect immediately.

If approved but not unanimously, it will take effect in 30 days.

The Gulfport City Council meets at 1:30 tomorrow in the council chambers at City Hall.
